As early as 1300, the citizens of Briedel began to protect their village with a massive protective wall, a fortification, against attacks and raids. The Owl Tower was the main tower that overlooked the entire complex. From here, the whole village could be surveyed, and the defense coordinated. Weather influences led to further deterioration and partial collapse. Since the ground-level entrance was buried, only birds could inhabit the tower through the narrow arrow slits. For many years, it was a colony of owls, which subsequently gave the tower its current name "Owl Tower." The tower has a diameter of 6.50 m and a wall thickness of about 60 cm at the bottom.
