Slate quarry stone construction
Gothic Church in Gutweiler
The village is characterized by a dominating, exposed slate quarry stone building. A simple, three-bay hall structure divided by buttresses, with a recessed two-axis and three-sided closing choir. The neo-Gothic church was built in 1895 according to plans by architect Lamberty, Trier, by master builder Ambré, Waldrach, replacing the previous church from the 16th century.
In 1953, architect Gerold Dietrich, Trier, added the significant, gable-fronted tower. In the asymmetric, one-sided recessed structure, the actual tower rises as a cube over a rectangular floor plan and is capped above the arch-opened bell stage by a gable roof, accentuated by a slender gabled rider. The neo-Gothic pillar portal has been preserved in the tower hall.
