Augmented Reality - Roman Temple

Many locations along the Moselle had ancient settlements. Often, nothing is visible anymore to the naked eye. This is also true for the field about one kilometer northeast of Gusterath, where a Roman temple stood between the birth of Christ and the end of the 4th century. During excavations in 1989, only the ditches of the former foundation walls of a building were recognizable. Then, an inner and an outer square came to light, revealing the floor plan of a Gallo-Roman peripteral temple. In this particular architectural form, a colonnade surrounds the building on all four sides. This floor plan is typical for Romanesque temples in our region, which adhere to ancient Celtic traditions. The inner space housed the cult image as the Holy of Holies.
On the valley side of the temple next to the entrance, researchers found another treasure: more than 38 silver coins from the founding period of Roman Trier.
