Quartz rock

Hinkelstein near Thomm (Menhir)
West of Thomm, right next to a parking lot on the L151, a wedge-shaped stone block about 2 meters high juts out of the ground, known as the Hinkelstein. It is made of the same light quartz that can be found in the Wacken area of the Hochwald region. It is obviously erected by human hands and belongs to the menhirs. These are upright stone pillars or blocks, primarily found in northwest France. The purpose and significance of these menhirs have not yet been clearly determined. They are likely ancient cult stones that date back to the Late Stone Age or the Early Bronze Age. In any case, they are a sign of early settlement. People likely gathered here to perform a religious cult.
