- Holzerath
Recreational facility
Around the small lake, in the middle of the Holzerather Forest, about a 15-minute walk from the village, a recreational facility for young and old has been created. Spacious lawns invite you to sunbathe or relax in the shade of the mixed forest surrounding the lake.
From the lake, a small bridge leads over the gently trickling inflow to the barefoot water basin. Children can let off steam on the meadows, the zip line, and on the swing or practice their balance on the 30-meter-long, naturally preserved wooden log. A volleyball court rounds off the offerings.
There is nothing to prevent a jump into the cool water of the lake. The water quality is regularly checked by the health department. At the deepest point, the body of water measures about 1.80m. In the shallow shoreline areas, children can also splash around under supervision; there are no unexpected deep spots in the shallow basin.
To ensure families can have fun here, the facility is awakened from its winter slumber just before Easter by volunteers from Holzerath. They remove the leaves and take care of the maintenance of the barbecue hut, shelter, seating, railings, play equipment, and the restroom facilities.
On Sundays and public holidays, local clubs take turns providing food and drink for visitors and bathers from morning till evening. In the hut, they sell grilled meats, sausages, and beverages.
At Holzerather Lake, bathers become minimalists for a few hours, appreciating the free rustic pleasure that inevitably brings an extraordinary connection to nature.
