Hunsrück-Moselle Cycle Path

  • Treis-Karden

As part of the EU's LEADER + funding, the Hunsrück-Mosel Cycle Path was created as an interesting connection from the Moselle to the Hunsrück foothills.

Hunsrück-Moselle Cycle Path

The holiday region of Treis-Karden - situated between Cochem and Koblenz - stretches from the Eifel region via the Moselle valley to the hills of the Hunsrück. There are three different holiday areas with a variety of scenery just waiting to be discovered on a cycle tour.
The cycle path through the Lützbach valley provides a fascinating link route from the Moselle to the Hunsrück and the popular Schinderhannes cycle path.
Just a few miles inland from the Moselle, the cycle route passes by the scree slopes created by the slate-mining industry and along the course of an idyllic stream. It then passes through the villages of Lütz, Lieg, Lahr and Zilshausen to the hills of the Hunsrück.
Your route takes you past fields of yellow rapeseed, wild flowers and butterflies. The information boards in Lütz and Lieg tell you about the tremendous variety of rare flora and fauna to be found in the region.
From Kastellaun, the Schinderhannes cycle path follows the line of the former Hunsrück railway, an enjoyable ride for young and old alike over a total length 38 kilometres between Emmelshausen and Simmern.
The cycle path from the Moselle to Kastellaun is on little-used roads and farm tracks. The stretch between Lütz - Lieg and Neumühle - Kastellaun has a gradient of approx. 7%.
