Katholische Kirche

  • Nehren

St. Agatha is a Catholic church in the town of Nehren on the Moselle. It belongs to the deanery of Cochem in the diocese of Trier and is a daughter church of the church of St. Martin in Ediger. The church building is surrounded by a walled cemetery.

There was a predecessor building that was first mentioned around 1220. The present building is still Romanesque in parts, but it was essentially built during the Gothic period in the first half of the 16th century. The church has a rectangular ground plan with a three-bay nave, which has a cross vault. The tower does not occupy the entire width of the nave. It is drawn into the nave in the south-west corner. The building, which is made of quarry stones, is stone-faced plastered. This means that the plaster layer only fills the depressions and the stones protrude visibly in many places. The tower and nave have slate roofs. The pointed spire has four corner turrets at the base, two of which are decorated with finials.

Service can be viewed online.
