The 1.4 km long mountain hiking trail to the viewpoint "Kumer Knüppchen" in the Kammerwald above Mehring and Riol offers typical vegetation forms of the dry-warm rocky slopes, such as the flowering currant, common serviceberry, sticky catchfly, and stone orpine. In contrast, you might find the fire salamander at the cool Molesbach. During the ascent, nearly 200 meters of elevation gain must be overcome, and the viewpoint "Kumer Knüppchen" is located 322 m above sea level. From here, you will be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view over Mehring and the Rioler valley expanse. The footpath sometimes leads through steep, rocky terrain, and the difficult passages are equipped with safety ropes. The access to the mountain hiking trail is possible from Riol via the wine experience trail between stations 12 and 13. From Mehring, you can reach the path via the Mosel cycle path at Molesbach before Riol. The path is signposted.
The trail is (round trip) 2.9 km long and is classified as difficult. All sure-footed individuals can venture onto the steep but relatively manageable via ferrata. From Mehring and from the "Waldsee" camping site in Riol, the trail can be accessed via the Mosel Cycle Path. A meadow path runs along the edge of the forest to the deeply notched Molesbach. A steep serpentine path ascends the forest slope, crosses a forest road, and finally leads to the first rocks. During the ascent, nearly 200 meters of elevation gain must be overcome, and the viewpoint Felsenkreuz/ "Kumer Knüppchen" is a total of 322 m above sea level. From here, climbers are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view over Mehring and the Riol valley width. The path is marked with "R14".
