Cematary of honour On the top of the lookout tower "Prinzenkopf" locates the cematary of honour, a memorial of heroes. The deads of the battle for the "Prinzenkopf", from March the 12th - 17th 1945, are burried on this place. From here you have a beautiful view on the viaduct of the railroad track from Trier to Koblenz.
This was taken as an occasion in 1955 to establish an honorary cemetery at this site. In 1955, 16 soldiers were reburied here from the surrounding cemeteries, and in 1961-1962, another 61 war dead, who were killed in bombing raids, were transferred.
The heroes' cemetery is beautifully situated, adapted to nature, on the Prinzenkopf. Each grave is marked with a gray basalt headstone, which, as far as known, bears the name, date of birth, and date of death of the deceased. In designing the cemetery, care is taken that the uniform appearance is not disturbed. This equality emphasizes that all fallen soldiers shared the same fate.
The graves are laid out on two levels, connected by a staircase. The original heroes' cemetery from 1955 is on the lower level, and the war dead that were added in 1962 are on the upper level.
In a communal grave marked with a large headstone, 16 civilians who died as a result of an air attack are buried.
Opposite the entrance, facing Pünderich, stands a large basalt cross. A plaque next to the cross bears the inscription: "To the war dead of the district of Zell." The heroes' cemetery is a reminder of the suffering caused by war and at the same time a call for peace.
