Langenstein bei Riveris

  • Riveris

Quartzite rock divided by crevices

Above Riveris, on the western side of the valley, there is a high quartzite rock known as "Langenstein." It is divided into several parts by vertical and transverse cracks, but they form a whole.
Centuries ago, during a thunderstorm, a lightning bolt struck the rock. A piece broke off from the block and fell down the slope, where it still lies today. You can find Langenstein by following a forest path south from the parking lot south of Morscheid, which also leads south to the Riveris Dam.
