- Trittenheim
The chapel dedicated to Saint Lawrence of the Wine was first mentioned in a document in 1569. It stands amidst vineyard slopes as a church for the surrounding villages and Trittenheim, which was then still written as Tritthamme. People lived at that time on the hill near the chapel. Only much later was a new settlement established in the valley. Every year, the Laurentius Chapel is the destination of a solemn procession on the second weekend of August. As part of a service, the patron saint of the vines is commemorated, and God’s blessing is sought for a "successful harvest and protection from bad weather and pests". From 1997 to 1999, the chapel was exemplary restored by the St. Laurentius Chapel Trittenheim Support Association e.V. and today invites hikers and lovers of our wine landscape to pause for reflection.
