- Trittenheim
The Trittenheimer Fährfels is located opposite the winegrowing village of Trittenheim.
At the foot of the Prallhang, it served for centuries as a landing place for the ferry. The top wines of the Trittenheimer Apotheke and Trittenheimer Leiterchen vineyards grow on the historic vineyard terraces. Two RomanSandstone sarcophagi of a Roman vineyard owner from the 4th century, which were discovered in the steep slope, prove that wine has been cultivated on the Moselle for more than 1500 years.
In 2017, the Trittenheimer Fährfels was recognized as a "Beacon of Biological Species Diversity in the Moselle Winegrowing Region" as part of the "Initiative Living Moselle Vineyards." The light points are signposted on site. A QR code takes visitors to more detailed information that informs winegrowers, locals, guests, and those interested in wine and nature about the special features of the exposed sites. Further information on the Living Moselle Vineyards project can be found at http://www.lebendige-moselweinberge.de.
