Marien Chapel

  • Alf

The Marienkapelle is located about 200 m above the Remigiuskirche on a rocky outcrop amidst the vineyards. The origins of the chapel can be found in the last years of the Thirty Years' War

The chapel, originally built from wood, was rebuilt in the 18th century using stone. Upon entering the chapel, the first sight is of a roughly 300-year-old wooden Pietà. The sculpture is carved from a single piece and stands about 90 cm tall. The large cross in front of the chapel was erected in gratitude for surviving an epidemic. Due to its beautiful location, the mountain chapel has become a popular viewpoint.
