Moselsteig stage 20 (Treis-Karden-Moselkern)

  • Cochem

Short profile Total length: 13.6 km Highest point: 285 m Lowest point: 75 m Duration: approx. 4.5 hours Difficulty level: difficult

A stage that starts with culture and history: past the Moselle dome - the St. Castor Abbey Curia in Treis-Karden - the trail leads on a short but steep path into nature, which has something unusual to offer here with its wild boxwood. This is followed by challenging passages along the slope edge and in steep vineyards, with a view of the wild gorge of the Krailsbach. As a special highlight, Eltz Castle awaits hikers - one of the landmarks of German history. It is hidden in the Elzbachtal and thus escaped the destruction of the Thirty Years' War and the Palatinate Wars of Succession. After this experience, it goes along the Elzbach to the wine village of Moselkern.
