Müden

Müden is one of the oldest Moselle settlements of Celtic origin. The village was first mentioned in documents around the year 585 AD, more than 1400 years ago. A Roman settlement has been documented by numerous finds. The historic, cheerful wine village has rich medieval buildings. The picturesque wine-growing landscape on the sunny side of the Moselle valley, the Moselle, which has been developed into a major shipping route, and the proximity of the medieval Eltz Castle give the village a special character. Old half-timbered houses and romantic village corners invite visitors to linger in contemplation. Halfenhäuser (former rest houses of the Moselle boatmen), the ancestral home of the historian and writer Josef Görres, as well as the ancestral home of the anatomist and physiologist Johannes Müller are to be mentioned as historical features. The boxwood hiking trail, unique in our region, and numerous other hiking trails to Eltz Castle and through the vineyards, among others, offer many interesting hiking experiences and provide comprehensive information about the charming Moselle wine and natural landscape.
