Discover the Klause on a guided tour! The "Klause" of Kastel-Staadt is located on a sandstone plateau high above the Saar with fascinating views over the Saar valley. The former Celtic-Roman refuge and hermit's dwelling was remodelled by the Prussian King Frederick William IV and his master builder Karl Friedrich von Schinkel as a burial church for the blind King John of Bohemia. He thus created one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture.

29 March - 31 October 2024: Wednesday to Sunday 10 am - 4 pm, July and August 10 am - 5 pm, last admission one hour before closing time. Open on public holidays in Rhineland-Palatinate. Please note that the hermitage may be closed at short notice due to weather conditions for your own safety.
