- Kobern-Gondorf
Anyone visiting Kobern-Gondorf for the first time will be fascinated by the unique density of historical buildings. Two castles and palaces can be found in this relatively tranquil Moselle town. Specifically mentioned are: The ruins of the Niederburg, the picturesque Oberburg perched on a ridge high above the Moselle, featuring the most significant late Romanesque Matthias Chapel, the fairytale-like and graceful Schloss Liebieg, and the former water-encircled Schloss von der Leyen – the former Gondorf Oberburg – the only water castle on the Moselle. A wealth of history from the Roman and Celtic periods speaks for itself. The towns of Kobern and Gondorf are located directly on the Moselle, while the district of Dreckenach is situated slightly away from the river on the Maifeld at the Nothbach.
The districts of Kobern and Gondorf stretch for about three kilometers along the Moselle River, about 17 kilometers from Koblenz and 33 kilometers from Cochem. The district of Dreckenach lies somewhat away from the Moselle on the Maifeld at the Nothbach.
If there is such a thing as the DNA of a Moselle resident, it is our warmth. We simply can't help but welcome guests with open arms. Even if you have never been here before – you will feel at home immediately. In other words: We make no secret of our sociability and openness. It only becomes mysterious when you sit comfortably with the winemaker by candlelight in the late hours, listening to the story of the Tatzelwurm...
We Kobern-Gondorf residents are truly proud of our historic town
