About 150 years ago, anyone walking along the Moselle from Senheim to Mesenich would see many stone heaps of considerable size in the vineyards, called "Steinräuschen". Since there was no municipality far and wide where so many Steinräuschen were to be found as in Mesenich and hardly any other place was so rich in stones, the inhabitants of the area gave the people of Mesenich the name "Mesenicher-Steinreichskäpp". You can see citizens of the village carved in stone on the associated hiking trail.
