From whichever direction the view of Treis falls, the picture is determined by the parish church of St. John the Baptist. "The foundation stone for the church was laid on 2 May 1824. The plans were drawn up by government architect Jean Claude de Lassaulx from Koblenz. The building was completed in 1828 and was consecrated on 1 July. The solemn consecration by the Bishop of Trier Josef Ludwig Alois von Hommer took place on the Sunday after St John's Day, 26 June 1831. The anniversary of the consecration and the patron saint's day are celebrated annually as a fair on the Sunday after St. John's Day, 24 June. The church is clearly marked as a St. John the Baptist church in its furnishings. A side altar shows a large portrait of St. John by Matthias Schraudolph from Munich. In the choir is a vernacular figure of St John with the cross staff and banner in one hand, and the Lamb of God in the other. On the tabernacle is the word of John: "Behold the Lamb of God." Crucial events of his life are recorded in four stained glass windows. Another figure of John stands on the outer façade of the church."
