The church was built in 1866 and built on Schüttergrund.
Therefore, the foundation did not have enough support, and there was a danger of collapse. However, since a repair would have been just as expensive as new construction, the church was demolished in 1954, and planning for the new house of worship began. During the construction of the church, great care was taken to adhere to the requirements set forth by the senior authority in sacred construction, Professor Otto Bartning, for church building. It should and still is today meant to be a "covered confession of faith." A special feature is the furnishings of the tower. Since a large number of the parishioners living in Zell were refugees from their homeland, a memorial site was established in the lower part of the bell tower with the coats of arms of the provinces of Central Germany and the German East. The four bronze bells were tuned in pitch and tone sequence to match the peal of the Catholic Church.
