- Kenn
Such mysterious remains of a once magnificent estate can be found outside the city gates of Trier. Would you like to guess what they were used for?
There is no doubt that a magnificent ancient estate once stood in Kenn. Foundations and the remains of walls, fragments of columns, marble cladding, mosaics and painted wall plaster have been found time and again. The discovery of a Roman spring nymph, a replica of which stands on the Römerplatz square today, was a particular sensation. And then there are three connected cellar rooms that you can visit. They are unusually well preserved, have windows and shafts to let in the light, wall plaster and painted niches. Very unusual for a storage cellar. Or was there a mysterious cult room here?
Or even a sales room for regional products? Perhaps hams and smoked meats hung from the ceiling beams, dried fruit and vegetables were stored on racks, and wine and pulses were waiting in barrels and amphorae for buyers from the city. What do you think?
A station of the Roads of the Romans.
