- Lehmen
In the summer of 2014, the unique project "Lavender and natural herb terraces" was launched for the Terrassenmosel. In the vineyards of the Lehmer Razejunge association in the "Lehmener Würzlay", there are steep terraces worth seeing on natural rock, as well as centuries-old dry stone walls made of regional quarry stones and artistic vineyard stairs. A portion of about 2,500 m² of the Razejunge vineyard terraces was worked and planted for the project "Lavender and Natural Herb Field Terraces" in sections from mid-2014 to early summer 2015 and will subsequently be maintained sustainably and expanded if necessary. These attractive vineyard areas of the "Lehmener Würzlay" are located on the left side of the Moselle, south of Lehmen at the level of Reiherschussinsel, a nature reserve, above the Lehmen barrage. On the Moselle side, the Wingert terraces can be seen from the federal highway B 416, the railroad line Koblenz - Trier, the Moselle bicycle path and of course from the waterway of the Moselle. On the uphill side, the "Würzlaysteig", a linear theme trail of the Mosel.Erlebnis.Route over 11.3 km from Lehmen to Löf, leads directly past these plots. Numerous theme boards provide hikers with interesting information on special features of the Lower Moselle region. The Razejunge are committed to nature conservation and environmental protection. Children and young people are actively involved in projects for this purpose. Through various activities, they promote the biodiversity of flora and fauna in the Lehmen Würzlay, maintain vineyard terraces and dry stone walls with artistic quarry stone staircases as well as small biotopes in the steep slopes. The Lehmen Razejunge are a registered, non-profit and active association, they promote the culture of traditional viticulture of the terraced Moselle. The main purpose is the preservation of local history and local lore. The term Razejung derives from the "Raz", a woven back carrying basket. With this basket, the young men from Lehmen ("Junge") carried the manure to fertilize the vines in the steep vineyard slopes during the winter months. At that time, many people from Lehmen worked as stone masons and used this work to get themselves and their families through the winter without work.
