Architectural styles from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and Baroque to the Empire can be seen in the buildings of the oldest castle winery on the Moselle.
The impressive complex of Thorn Castle is the oldest castle winery on the Moselle. A ford on the Moselle below the castle was the reason for the Romans to build a watchtower on a protruding rock. This tower gave its name to the castle. Over the past two millennia, the complex has been expanded, remodeled, and renovated, so that today the architectural styles from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and Baroque to the Empire style can be seen. After the Romans, the castle was in the possession of bishops and archbishops until it was sold in 1534. It has remained in family ownership to this day. The castle features a 400-year-old pressing house with a massive tree press. The wines can be tasted in the Vinaria.
