Mosses are astonishingly diverse and species-rich plants that are often overlooked. In this seminar, Sonja Štefić will introduce you to various types of moss and demonstrate the key role they play in ecosystems.

Whether on pavement cracks, in forests, dry grasslands, or bodies of water – mosses inhabit nearly all habitats. With over 1,000 species alone in Germany, they offer an astonishing variety. Mosses store water, stabilize soils, filter pollutants, and provide habitats for microscopic organisms. They are also significant for humans – whether as bioindicators, medicinal plants, or insulation material.
