St Joseph's Church Brauneberg-Filzen

The oldest component of the current complex is the distinctive Romanesque tower, which originally belonged to a St. Andrew's chapel that was later torn down. This branch church of the parish of Wintrich was first mentioned in 1455, but the tower is considerably older. Dating from the 11th century, it shows strong similarities to the west facade of the Trier Cathedral St. Peter and represents not only one of the most significant relics of Romanesque architecture in Rhineland-Palatinate but also, along with the ground floor of the Kleinich church tower, the oldest Christian building in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich. During their visit to the church, the leadership team of the pastoral area was able to confirm that it has an exceedingly powerful triple bell peal!
