- Wittlich-Bombogen
In keeping with its role as the church of a large district, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a striking landmark in the Wittlich valley in an exposed, slightly elevated position on the south-western edge of the village.
The clear, wide hall building with a three-sided façade and simple, high arched windows was built in 1789-92 on the site of two previous buildings, a typical, rather unpretentious country church in a strict, late Baroque style. The tower, which is only two storeys high but appears elongated due to the light, eight-sided spire, is attached to the nave by the strong, cranked eaves cornice.
The interior is flat-fronted above a cove, with the slightly convex organ loft on two supports in the west without a connection to the tower. The interior shows an unfortunate mixture of relics from several renovations (1872, 1920s and 1960s). Some remnants of decorative colouring have been uncovered.
