St Michael's Chapel

  • Taben-Rodt

The Gothic Chapel of St. Michael, dating from the 15th century, stands on a steep, pointed rock high above the Saar River with a magnificent view of the Saar Valley.

Shrouded in legend - the Chapel of St. Michael! The Gothic Chapel of St. Michael, dating from the 15th century, is situated on a steep, pointed rock high above the Saar River just before Taben-Rodt. The legend of the Chapel of St. Michael is also mystical. A knight on horseback was fleeing from his enemies. He saved his life with a daredevil leap into the waters of the Saar. In gratitude for his rescue, he redeemed his vow to St. Michael and then built the chapel. Whether you believe the legend or not, there is a magnificent view of the Saar valley from here. The chapel of St. Michael is also the starting point for the 10 km hike through the Tabener Urwald and Saarsteilhänge nature reserves on the Kaiserweg with its gorge and slope forests, boulder-covered valleys and near-natural stream valleys.
