The wayside chapel replaces the former local chapel of the Hatzdorf deserted settlement northwest of Neuerburg. It houses a sandstone relief of St. Nicholas from 1811 and a replica of the statue of St. Nicholas from the old chapel on the gable (the original is in the church in Neuerburg).
The first church was built in 1698 in the upper village. It was destroyed in the great fire of 1840 and never rebuilt. In 1858, the Bastgen-Geiter estate, later Servatius, house name Hiewels (from ‘hill’) was built in its place.
A sandstone angel's head still exists from the church, walled into today's church façade (street side, to the left of the staircase), as well as two sandstone chapels in the upper village (Buchenstr. 42).
In place of the Orsbecker Hof, which was secularised (i.e. expropriation of church property) in 1808, the parish of Neuerburg built the present-day church of St. Nicholas (name derived from the centuries-old St. Nicholas chapel in the former Hatzdorf; the sandstone figure of St. Nicholas under the gallery also comes from this), as a four-bay neo-Gothic hall church (1872/73).
In the 1950s, the chancel was remodelled, the high altar and 2 side altars were removed and new windows were installed.
