- Löf-Kattenes
The Valley of the 13 Mills is just under 250 meters long – but they pack a punch. With a gradient of 24 percent, the Mill Valley in Kattenes on the Mosel is one of the steepest streets in Rhineland-Palatinate. Another special feature: The 13 buildings, most of which are inhabited again, were all once mills.
Unique is the Katteneser Mühlental, the so-called "Valley of the 13 Mills." Along a very steep road, numerous historical grain and oil mills can be found, along with old residential and agricultural buildings. After centuries of operation, the last mill wheels have also stood still since the 1930s. Fortunately, a large part of the buildings have been painstakingly renovated and are in an admirable condition, giving the narrow valley a special charm.
