- Saarburg
Located directly by the waterfall, the museum showcases traditional Saarburg craftsmanship as well as contemporary art.
A visit to the Municipal Museum Amüseum at the waterfall is definitely worth planning. This year, visitors can explore the newly designed turbine room of the historic hydropower plant located in the museum's basement. Electricity was already being produced in the former electoral mill above the waterfall around 1900, initially with a water wheel and a generator, and from 1936 onwards with a Francis turbine. The city of Saarburg meticulously renovated the hydropower plant in 2023. A short, comic-style explanatory film in German and English introduces the history and functionality of the plant.
Through an audio tour in German and explanatory panels, guests can learn more about the plant, which is historic, sustainable, and state-of-the-art. There is a quiz on hydropower available for children.
In addition to the hydropower plant, the museum showcases traditional Saarburg crafts (bell founder, printer, shoemaker, tanner, shipper, pharmacist) as well as interesting temporary exhibitions. The ground floor features a parlor over 100 years old that invites conversation, relaxation, and enjoyment (barrier-free). There is a museum quiz available for children (D, E, F, NL).
Accessibility: step-free access via ramp, information and "salon" on the ground floor are accessible without steps, disabled toilet available
