A Camino de Santiago from Koblenz-Stolzenfels to Trier St. Matthias
Since the summer of 2008, the so-called Moselle Camino has been completely signposted over an extremely diverse and delightful track from Koblenz-Stolzenfels to the St. Matthias Benedictine Abbey as part of the St. James pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.
The yellow scallop on the blue background guides hikers over a distance of some 180 kilometres to the grave of Matthias the apostle.
The pilgrim route once again heads over the lofty heights of the Eifel and Hunsrück, and past medieval castles, ruins, old minsters and chapels. Traditional pilgrimage sites alternate with romantic wine-growing villages and towns.
Overall, this route's degree of difficulty is not too high; but sufficient conditioning and sure-footedness, as well as sensible footwear, is required due to some steep passages in the vineyards.
The new "Cochem and Treis-Karden Tourist Region" hiking map (1:25000) shows the route from Hatzenport to Bullay.
The Tourist-Information Ferienland Treis-Karden office, located at the trainstation in the district of Karden, provides all hikers with a pilgrim stamp in their pilgrimage book.
