Welcome to the slate country of Kaisersesch!
Embedded by the Endert and Elz streams on the heights and by the Mosel river in the valley, the "Schieferland Kaisersesch" region was one of the regional centres of German slate mining until 1959. Still today, impressive mine entrances, former slate mines and the remains of the company buildings, as well as the tallest slate heap in Germany line the slate mine hiking trail; these relics give a good sense of this bygone era. On a guided hike through the Kaulenbach Valley, traces of the past in the slate country of Kaisersesch are revealed. A must-see highlight is the reconstruction of the old splitting house in the Kaulenbach Valley, which opened in 2016. The landscape of the slate country regales the observer with an interplay of plateaus and the valleys between.
Other highlights in the Kaisersesch slate country include the impressive Schwanenkirche Church, Pyrmont Castle, the monastery and pilgrimage church of Maria Martental and much more.
We would be happy to advise you personally about our cycling and hiking paths, as well as about accommodation you require.
We look forward to your visit!
