The double municipality of Treis-Karden lies at the intersection of old trade routes between the Hunsrück and the Eifel. Many historical buildings bear witness to the history of the community, which goes back to Celtic and Roman times. The former collegiate and now parish church of St. Castor with its mighty towers still dominates the village. The Abbey Museum is located right next door. The numerous buildings in the former monastery district dating from the 12th to 18th centuries bear witness to the heyday of the monastery. On the outskirts of Treis, between the Flaumbach and Dünnbach valleys, lie 2 castles. Of the 11th-century Treis Castle, only a keep can still be seen; the second, the Wildburg, is now owned by the local community and is to be made accessible to the public. If you want to enjoy a beautiful view of the Moselle valley, you should climb up to the Zilles Chapel along the Stationsweg in Treis or visit the Kompeskopf viewpoint on the other side of the Moselle. A boat trip on the Moselle to Cochem, Beilstein or to Koblenz is a special experience.
