Veldenz Castle

  • Veldenz

Veldenz Castle is one of the biggest castles on the Moselle from the 12th century. It is situated about 5 km from wine-growing village Mülheim on a steep rock above Thalveldenz district in one of the most beautiful side valleys of the Central Moselle.

The former comital castle at Veldenz used to be the biggest castle of the Central Moselle, until it was razed by French troops under King Louis XIV. The spacious ruin is partly dug into the steep rock. It is located in a side valley of the Moselle at Mülheim, above Thalveldenz district. Although only few buildings have been re-erected, the structure and military defense lines of the former castle can easily be identified. The castle complex can be visited on a guided tour.
