At first the abbey was dedicated to the Mother Mary.
At first the abbey was dedicated to the Mother Mary. From 1478 on the order of the “Golden Brothers of communal life”, the so-called “Kogelherren” took over the abbey. During this time between 1498 and 1500 a new abbey building and a big church were built. Because of the consequences of the reformation in the county of Sponheim and the new church building in the village of Wolf the abbey and the church on the hill fell into despair from 1685 on.
As you can see until today, many houses in the village were built of slate stones of the old abbey. After the Thirty Years´ War including six French occupations between 1645 and 1814 the Moselle valley became Prussian and the village of Wolf was assigned to the village of Zeltingen.
