The winery The name "Deis" was first mentioned in connection with viticulture in 1580, according to which the family has been associated with viticulture for centuries. However, the name did not reach Lehmen until the beginning of the 20th century, when Jakob Deis, the great-grandfather of the current owner, who came from Mesenich, met Gertrud Hürter from Lehmen. The winery, as it exists in its current form, was eventually built by his son Hermann at the current location. In 1987, the latter handed over his work to his son Helmut and his wife Edith. Since 2018, the winery has been managed by son Matthias together with his wife Corinna. We are particularly concerned with the naturalness and gentle processing of our wines. Therefore, everything comes from us from pruning to the finished wines from a single source. A large part of the vines of our winery is located in the Lehmener Würzlay, a terraced steep site on stony slate soil, with a slope inclination of up to 70%. In the Würzlay we exclusively grow Riesling. The warmth as well as the mineral releasing slate soil are excellent conditions to produce our delicious Riesling white wines. The reason for this is the so-called "equator effect": the greater inclination of the vineyards results in a multiplication of the intensity of the sun's rays. On the one hand, this means that there is more light for photosynthesis (ripening of the grapes) and, on the other hand, it is naturally warmer. On the Lehmener Klosterberg, a less steep vineyard site, are the varieties Rivaner and Regent, from which we produce red wine or Rosé and Rotling.
