Weingut Wolfgang Mertes

The winery was founded by Alberta and Heinrich Mertes. Their son Wolfgang, the current owner, has learned and worked in many large and well-known businesses. He has traveled extensively and engages in discussions with colleagues domestically and internationally to enhance quality.

The winery exclusively cultivates slate steep sites in Waldrach. The main sites are the Sonnenberg, known for its very elegant fruit-driven Rieslings, and the Meisenberg, where more robust Rieslings and fruity, velvety Pinot Noirs thrive. The philosophy of the winery lies in producing fresh, fruity, elegant Rieslings with a refreshing lightness. In addition to the fruit-driven red wines, there is a passion for the Pinot Noir aged in barrique barrels. Their ambition is to create wines with great potential for the future.
