Right through the forest and across human history, this hiking trail leads high above the Moselle valley. An easy hike with depth.

More than 3,000 years ago, the mountain ranges around Bruttig-Fankel were already populated and people have left many traces. The approximately 2.5 km long archaeological hiking trail (not a circular route) makes them accessible with information boards. It leads right through the forest, where an old Celtic and Roman road once ran. Burial mounds from different eras line the path. People were buried here in the early Iron Age, around 1,000 years before our era. Other burial mounds contain finds that point to a Celtic settlement. A section of the old Roman road bears witness to the infrastructure of the Roman Empire. A medieval hollow way and a landwehr date from later times. It is hard to believe that this quiet hiking trail was once bustling with activity. You would have had to make way for horse-drawn carriages and riders and would certainly have encountered some traders and soldiers. Those days are long gone. So take a deep breath and enjoy nature!
