A hike around the pilgrimage and feel-good place Klausen in the heart of the Mosel-Eifel.

This hike leads through the landscape around the pilgrimage site Klausen with its two districts Krames and Pohlbach. These offer many “small escapes” for quiet reflection. This certainly includes the pilgrimage church “Maria Heimsuchung,” which is visited annually by over 100,000 pilgrims and is considered a place of power with a history of over 500 years. Also worth seeing is the parish garden with its old trees and the terraced Abbot's Garden, where numerous herbs are planted on one level. The garden dates back to the founding period of the former monastery in the 15th century. Let us not forget the artistic village fountains, which can be found in all three districts. But the hiking trail “Around Klausen” offers more!

Insights into the hiking tour:

There are great views, and along reclaimed gravel pits, rare animals, especially birds, have found a new home. On hot summer days, the many fountains along the way provide some refreshment.

General information

Directions

The centrally located village shop with the pilgrim hostel "Eberhardsklause" is a good starting point for the hike (there are also parking options in Eberhardstraße below the Abbot's Garden). Now you should decide whether to visit the parish and pilgrimage church "Maria Heimsuchung" or the Abbot's Garden right at the beginning, or only at the end of the route. It is definitely worth it!

The path itself leads you from the parking lot below the Abbot's Garden first along small paths through a meadow area, then over an asphalt road into the district of Krames. Passing the village fountain and neat farmhouses, the path continues along the Kramesbach stream and green meadows. After crossing a stream, turn left. Soon you will pass a construction trailer with a forest playground, set up by the forestry office for children and young people. You follow a narrow forest path, then a tarred road that leads to the right towards the village of Esch. Then you cross an intersection and take another right at the next opportunity; the path continues under a road underpass, always along the edge of the forest bordering reclaimed gravel pits. You reach the district of Pohlbach via a farm track, the "Mühlenweg," and the "Poststraße." At the Mühlenbach (Grönbach) you turn right onto the footpath leading to the Polbacher Margarethen Church and the Pohlbach children's fountain, then carefully cross the road in a curve area. The local roads "Zum Mühlbach" and "Zum Rosenthälchen" lead you further out of town. At first, it continues on asphalted farm roads, then you enter the forest. The forest path rises gently. Behind an almost silted firefighting pond, you turn right at an intersection and meet open terrain again at a shelter. You follow the bend of the farm track and then turn left after about 200 meters. Forest and meadow areas now alternate along the path. After a sharp right turn, you hike back towards the district of Pohlbach and cross the Grönbach again. An asphalt path, the "Wiesenweg," leads you left behind the development and to the "Wittlicher Straße" (the main road of the village). There you cross the bridge over the L 47. Going straight on, you will reach the starting point of the hike again after about 500 meters.
