Please note that access from the platform in Taben to the cycle path is only possible via a large staircase. If you arrive by train, the bicycles must be carried up the steep stairs.

General information

Directions

Start:

From your accommodation, cycle to Trier main station and from there take the train to Taben

(Please note that access from the platform in Taben to the cycle path is only possible via stairs. Due to the absence of an elevator, bicycles must be carried up the stairs.)

From Taben station, you now cycle downstream along the Saar Cycle Path. For the first few kilometers, the cycle path runs along federal road 51 until it switches to a dedicated cycle path at the Serrig lock.

From Serrig, it is 6 kilometers to Saarburg.

  • Visit Saarburg

You reach Saarburg’s town center by passing under two bridges over the Saar on the Saar Cycle Path. After the second bridge, keep right and cycle up to the road. Follow this road to the right through the next curve and cross the Saar bridge and then through the tunnel. After the tunnel, turn left onto "Graf-Siegfried-Straße." At its end, after about 400 m, you will find the Tourist Information. On the left side of "Graf-Siegfried-Straße" is the pedestrian zone with museums and a waterfall.

After visiting Saarburg, return to the Saar Cycle Path and follow it further downstream on the right side of the river to Schoden. You cross the Saar power plant and cycle along the canalized Saar to the Kanzem lock.

Cross the Kanzem lock and continue on the left side of the river to Konz. Here, the Saar finally flows into the Moselle.

Via the first or third bridge in Konz, you can cross the Saar again to then continue on the Moselle Cycle Path to Trier.

Tip
  • Tip: From Taben-Rodt, a detour to Mettlach, just under 10 kilometers away, is also worthwhile. It is world-famous for the lifestyle provider Villeroy & Boch located here and the Saarschleife just a few kilometers further.
  • Tip: From Schoden, you can also follow the old arm of the Saar via Wiltingen and Kanzem to the Kanzem lock.
Public transit

You can easily reach the Taben-Rodt train station from Trier by Deutsche Bahn.
