The "Calmont-Stuben Monastery-Petersberg" cultural trail has a lot to offer: Hike around the Moselle loop, visit Petersberg with its late Romanesque fortifications, explore the picturesque church ruins of the former Stuben Monastery, or climb the Calmont via ferrata on Europe’s steepest vineyard.
The Route: The starting points for the via ferrata are located in Eller at the railroad bridge and in Bremm above the church. The hike takes about three hours and includes some challenging sections, which are, however, very well secured. From Eller, the route leads past the Galgenlay mountain hut to the Amphitrion lookout point.
Further along, you can branch off from the main route and climb up to the summit cross on Calmont (with a mountain hut). From the turnoff, the main trail leads slightly downhill to Bremm.Getting There: By car: A61, take the Rheinböllen exit; follow the B 50 and B 421 toward Zell/Mosel, then the B 49 toward Koblenz; or take the A48, exit at Ulmen, follow the B 259 to Cochem, then the B 49 toward Trier until you reach Bremm. Parking lots in Bremm and Neef are marked with signs directing you to the via ferrata entrance!
By public transportation: Take the regional train from Koblenz or Trier to the Eller train station. From Bullay or Cochem, take the “Calmont-Express” bus line 711.
The Calmont via ferrata is accessible year-round, but the trail should only be hiked in dry weather. Hiking here is not recommended in rain or wet conditions.
