Canoe trip from Schoden to the castle and waterfall in Saarburg and back.
On a canoe trip with Kanu SaarFari on the Saar, you can discover the scenic beauty of the Saar valley in a completely new way. This adventure starts in Schoden and first leads upstream to Saarburg. Here, you should not miss a detour into the Leuk. The short detour into the Leuk is a must. Between the pool walls, the route leads to the Leuk kettle, from where you can see the 20 m high waterfall. The varied tour continues downstream through the wine culture landscape to Schoden to the water sports center on the Saar bank.
The Federal Canoe Association has certified the Saar from the Serrig barrage (km 18) to the Saar mouth in Konz (km 0) as a certified canoe water.
General information
Directions
Guided canoe trip from Schoden - Saarburg - Schoden.
Difficulty level: low flow velocity, shipping channel.
The paddling fun begins at the water sports center on the Saar riverbank in Schoden. From there, it first goes upstream, past vineyards and the wine towns of Biebelhausen, Ayl, and Ockfen to Saarburg.
You should definitely take the detour into the Leukbach to the kettle of the waterfall. Between the pool walls, you paddle to the Leuk kettle, from where the waterfall plunges 20 m down over rock cascades.
The return route leads downstream back to the canoe station in Schoden. The boats do not need to be transferred on this tour.
Safety Guidelines
Preserve and protect nature!
- As canoeists, we love nature, want to protect and preserve it, and be role models for others.
- To avoid trampling damage, we start and stop only at specially designated entry and exit points.
- We do not paddle our boats in reed belts, reed beds, or pond and water lily areas so as not to destroy the plants.
- To avoid disturbing water birds and other river inhabitants, we do not get too close to the animals and keep away from nesting sites and retreat areas, behaving as quietly as possible.
- We make sure that no plastic bottles or other rubbish fall into the river.
- For species protection reasons, pets are not allowed in the boat in the nature reserve.
What should be observed?
- The Saar is a major shipping channel; there is an absolute ban on drugs and alcohol here, as in road traffic!
- For your own safety, participants in a canoe trip should be able to swim. Children under 12 should gain their first paddling experience accompanied by adults.
- Our life jackets are very comfortable and do not hinder paddling. They provide buoyancy in case of capsizing and protect against cold and injury. Even very good swimmers wear a flotation aid with us.
- Large shipping always has the right of way. To avoid being caught off guard by a large push convoy, canoeists always paddle on the edge of the main river.
- Prohibited and life-threatening areas, e.g. in front of weirs, are marked with a red-white-red sign. These areas must be bypassed on a large scale.
