Additionally, the wine villages Klüsserath and Trittenheim invite you to some cozy moments or hours. The route runs through quite demanding terrain and is marked with "R 9".
General information
Equipment
Sturdy footwear.
Tip
Hinkelstein → The Menhir of Trittenheim stands in a beautiful spot high above the Mosel, about 3 kilometers from the village (according to Trittenheim tradition it is called Eselstratt = Eselstritt, because of the round indentation at the lower part). You will find it if you walk from Trittenheim to the Laurentius Chapel and then take the path north through the vineyards. It stands about 1.5 kilometers after the chapel, at the edge of the Mosel cliffs to the left of the path in a small forest.
Getting there
The approach is via the B 53 to the center of Klüsserath.

New: Hiking map 1 : 25,000 Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road
ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
Schweich (Mosel). With the latest MOSEL hiking map titled “Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road”, the Eifelverein supplements its hiking map series on the Mosel with now the fourth hiking map at a scale of
1 : 25,000. This hiking map series, which the Eifelverein publishes in cooperation with Moselland Touristik and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifelverein's map collection after all MOSEL hiking maps have been completed, with the Mosel run in the southeast.
The new hiking map replaces, with slightly altered sheet section, the previously issued and now outdated hiking map "Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Road" by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. Hikers will be reliably guided on the hiking routes in the holiday region Schweich along Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, side trips, and dream loops with the new hiking map. The Meulenwald hiking area is also shown on the map.
With Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, two long-distance hiking trails awarded "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail" pass through the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road. Not only with the connected circular hiking trails called “side trip” and “dream loop” does the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road form an extensive and varied hiking network. This hiking network is supplemented by sections of the Eifelsteig with two partner trails, the Mosel Höhenweg, other main hiking trails of the Eifelverein, and numerous regional hiking trails, also shown on the new map. Selected are some bicycle routes and five mountain bike routes on the Roman Wine Road.
Despite the extensive hiking and leisure offerings shown on the map, the Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well as the five side trips “Longuicher Sauerbrunnen”, “Zitronenkrämerkreuz”, “Mehringer Schweiz”, “Klüsserather Sagenweg” and “Moselachter” form the core of this new hiking map. Especially the four Moselsteig stages and the five side trips are not only described bilingually in the inside of the hiking map but also provide information on hiking difficulty with the display of the elevation profile.
The basis of this detailed hiking map is the official topographic map 1 : 25,000 of the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform 7.90 EUR and is available at the Tourist Information Roman Wine Road, Brückenstr. 46, 54338 Schweich, at Moselland Touristik and bookstores, and of course also from the Eifelverein e. V., Stürtzstraße 2 - 6 in 52349 Düren. There the map can also be ordered online around the clock via the internet at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
