Tip

Thörnicher Ritsch → The Thörnicher Ritsch is one of the most renowned vineyards on the Mosel. The name Ritsch derives from the crumbly gray slate of the site, with rocks continually sliding into the valley. Due to the crumbly rocks, land consolidation with path construction can only be carried out with great difficulty in the Ritsch, as the steep terrain would cause the paths to slip. We only acquired our vineyard in the Ritsch in 1995. The vines grow on the slope into small terraces. The vineyard is classified as a first-class site in the 1868 classification and by Pigott and Johnson. A characteristic feature of the Ritsch is the enormous fruit aromas with a mineral structure. Citrus, lychee, and passion fruit are found in the aroma of the wines.

New: Hiking Map 1 : 25 000 Holiday Region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route

ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.

Schweich (Mosel). With the latest MOSEL hiking map entitled “Holiday Region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route,” the Eifelverein expands its series of hiking maps on the Mosel with the now fourth hiking map at a scale of
1 : 25 000. This series of hiking maps, published by the Eifelverein in cooperation with Mosellandtouristik and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifelverein map series after completion of all MOSEL hiking maps with the Mosel run in the southeast.

The new hiking map replaces, with slightly changed sheet cut, the previously issued and now outdated hiking map "Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Route" from the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. Hikers are reliably guided on hiking tours in the holiday region Schweich along the Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, side routes, and dream loops. The Meulenwald hiking area is also depicted on the map.

With the Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, two long-distance hiking trails awarded as "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail" run through the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route. Not only with the connected circular hikes called “side routes” and “dream loops” does the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Route form an extensive and varied hiking network. This hiking network is complemented by sections of the Eifelsteig with two partner routes, the Mosel Höhenweg, as well as other main hiking trails of the Eifelverein and numerous regional trails also included on the new hiking map. Selected cycling trails and five mountain bike routes on the Roman Wine Route are also mapped.

Despite the extensive hiking and leisure offerings shown on the map, the Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7, and 8, as well as the five side routes “Longuicher Sauerbrunnen”, “Zitronenkrämerkreuz”, “Mehringer Schweiz”, “Klüsserather Sagenweg”, and “Moselachter” form the core of this new hiking map. The four Moselsteig stages and the five side routes are not only described bilingually in the inside of the hiking map, but also include elevation profiles and indications of the difficulty level of the hikes.

The basis for this detailed hiking map is the Official Topographic Map 1 : 25 000 of the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform price of 7.90 EUR and is available from the Tourist Information Roman Wine Route, Brückenstraße 46, 54338 Schweich, at Mosellandtouristik and in bookstores, as well as of course from the Eifelverein e. V., Stürtzstraße 2 - 6 in 52349 Düren. The map can also be ordered online around the clock at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
