The route around the beautiful wine village of Mehring is 9.8 km long and classified as medium difficulty. With breaks, you should plan for 4-5 hours.

The first section of the Huxlay Plateau route is characterized by a longer ascent that leads the hiker to a four-way junction just below the Zitronenkrämerkreuz. After passing this junction towards a nearby hunting stand, you walk, after a short descent through a small wooded area, along the upper edge of the Mehringer Goldkupp to the Huxlay hut.

On this section, starting from the Mehring chapel, there are several resting places with beautiful views of the Moselle valley at Mehring. The descent to Mehring along the wine educational trail and the charming Moselle streets of the village ends again in the village center. The route is marked with „R 5“.

Finnish Track → Mehring offers a new sporting attraction with the Finnish track. On the Moselle terrace with a magnificent view into the Moselle valley, you can train your fitness in a relaxed way on the 1.1 km long track. The soft wood chips on the running track make the Finnish track particularly gentle on the joints, and it also strengthens the leg muscles.

New: Hiking map 1 : 25 000 Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road

ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.

Schweich (Moselle).   With the latest MOSEL hiking map titled “Holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road”, the Eifelverein is expanding its series of hiking maps along the Moselle with the now fourth hiking map in the scale
1 : 25 000. This hiking map series, issued by the Eifelverein in collaboration with Moselland Tourism and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifelverein’s map series after the completion of all MOSEL hiking maps with the Moselle run in the southeast.

The new hiking map replaces the previously issued and now outdated hiking map „Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Road“ by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasic Information Rhineland-Palatinate with a slightly changed map section. The hiker will be reliably guided on hiking routes in the holiday region Schweich along the Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, Seitensprünge and Traumschleifen. The hiking area Meulenwald is also depicted on the map.

With Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, two long-distance hiking trails awarded as „Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail“ run through the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road. Not only with the adjoining circular hiking trails named „Seitensprung“ and „Traumschleife“ does the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road form an extensive and varied network of hiking trails. This network is complemented by sections of the Eifelsteig with two partner paths, the Moselhöhenweg and further main hiking trails of the Eifelverein and numerous regional hiking trails, all also included on the new hiking map. Selected cycling routes as well as five mountain bike routes on the Roman Wine Road are also shown on the map.

Despite the extensive hiking and leisure offerings shown on the map, the Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7 and 8 as well as the five Seitensprünge „Longuicher Sauerbrunnen“, „Zitronenkrämerkreuz“, „Mehringer Schweiz“, „Klüsserather Sagenweg“ and „Moselachter“ form the core of this new hiking map. In particular, the four Moselsteig stages and the five Seitensprünge are not only described bilingually in the inside section of the hiking map but also provide information about the difficulty level of the hike with the respective elevation profile.

The basis for this detailed hiking map is the official topographic map 1 : 25 000 of the State Office for Surveying and Geobasic Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform price of 7.90 EUR and is available at the tourist information Roman Wine Road, Brückenstraße 46, 54338 Schweich, at Moselland Tourism and bookshops and of course also at the Eifelverein e. V., Stürtzstraße 2 - 6 in 52349 Düren. The map can also be ordered online 24/7 via the internet at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
