The route is 10.8 km long and can be classified as easy to moderate. With breaks, one should plan for 4-5 hours. The ascent to Sang initially winds past the Kenner sports ground before passing through a small forest. This section of the "Sang Tour" is followed by a longer stretch over open agricultural tracks. From Sang, the path descends through the Longuicher forest towards Kirsch. Before the motorway underpass, the return route takes the vineyard paths of Angelberg and shortly before a newly built, huge photovoltaic system, you turn sharp right following an agricultural road to return to the wine village of Kenn. The Sang Tour is signposted with "R 10".

Tip

Cellar of a Roman villa:

Life was stylish in the 2nd century in Kenn. Numerous finds of a luxurious Roman villa testify to this – among them columns, marble claddings, mosaic remains, frescoes, or corridors, vaults, and walls. Today, only a long, three-part Roman cellar next to the local history museum can be seen. The underground room is sometimes used for wine tastings. Open from Easter to November, only on Sundays from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM; the front cellar room is open, the two rear ones can be viewed through a grate.

Original finds can be seen in the adjacent local history museum (opening hours as Roman cellar). Additionally, replicas are exhibited in the cellar.

Getting there

You can also easily reach the municipality of Kenn via the A 602. Take the motorway exit Kenn and then continue via L 145 to Kenn.

Parking

There are sufficient parking spaces available at the Kenn sports ground (about 150 m from the start and finish point of the tour and located along the route).

Public transit

By bus line 220 from Trier via Ruwer to Kenn.

Maps

New: Hiking map 1 : 25,000 Holiday Region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road

ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.

Schweich (Moselle). With the latest MOSEL hiking map titled "Holiday Region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road," the Eifelverein adds the fourth hiking map to its series at the Moselle at a scale of
1 : 25,000. This hiking map series, published by the Eifelverein in cooperation with Moselland Tourism and the tourist information offices of the affected municipalities, will complete the Eifelverein's map collection along the Moselle after the completion of all MOSEL hiking maps including the Moselle section in the southeast.

The new hiking map replaces the previously issued and now outdated hiking map "Neumagen-Dhron, Schweich on the Roman Wine Road" by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate, with slightly altered sheet cuts. Hikers are reliably guided on hiking tours in the holiday region Schweich along Moselsteig, Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, side routes and dream loops. The Meulenwald hiking area is also depicted on the map.

Both the Moselsteig and Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, two long-distance hiking trails awarded as "Germany's most beautiful hiking trails," cross the holiday region Schweich on the Roman Wine Road. Not only with the connected circular hiking trails labeled "Side Route" and "Dream Loop" does the holiday region form a large and varied hiking network. This network is supplemented by sections of the Eifelsteig with two partner trails, the Mosel Heights Trail as well as other main hiking trails by the Eifelverein and numerous regional hiking trails, all also shown on the new hiking map. Selected cycling trails and five mountain bike tours on the Roman Wine Road are also displayed on the map.

Despite the extensive hiking and leisure offer shown on the map, the Moselsteig stages 5, 6, 7, and 8 as well as the five side routes "Longuicher Sauerbrunnen," "Lemon Merchant Cross," "Mehringer Switzerland," "Klüsserath Legends Path," and "Moselachter" form the core of this new hiking map. Especially the four Moselsteig stages and the five side routes are described bilingually in the inner part of the hiking map, with each also showing the elevation profile and difficulty level of the hike.

The basis for this detailed hiking map is the Official Topographic Map 1 : 25,000 by the State Office for Surveying and Geobasis Information Rhineland-Palatinate. The map costs a uniform price of 7.90 EUR and is available at the Tourist Information Roman Wine Road, Brückenstraße 46, 54338 Schweich, at Moselland Tourism, in bookshops, and naturally also at the Eifelverein e.V., Stürtstraße 2 - 6 in 52349 Düren. The map can also be ordered online around the clock at www.eifelverein.de . ISBN: 978-3-944620-13-8.
