Idyllic corners & magnificent panoramic views. This family-friendly walking route leads on a natural path for a total of 6.8 km around the local community of Lorscheid.
On the Hochwald heights near Lorscheid, this 6.8 km route leads around the local community of Lorscheid. Along the way, you can repeatedly enjoy views and distant views of the various neighboring communities. Along the path are orchards with interesting information boards, a biotope with over 100 different plant species, and habitats for insects and small animals.
At various points along the route, shortcuts are possible and are also signposted with distance markers. For example, those who skip the signposted "Büchelsberg round" will circle the Hochwald community in 4.3 km. So, everyone can find the ideal route length for themselves here. Rest areas with facilities for children such as two playgrounds, a barbecue hut, and a sports field make the route especially attractive for families.
As a starting point, we recommend the parking lot at the village hall in Lorscheid, where you will find free parking spaces in sufficient numbers. From here, you can also start on any other route around Lorscheid (e.g., Traumschleife Römer-Keltenpfad, circular hiking trail LO2).

General information
Directions
From the parking lot at the village hall, the route goes northward on the heights above Lorscheid. After just under 500 m, you reach a small resting place at Meirather Kreuz, where the history of the former settlement Meirath near Lorscheid is indicated. At this intersection, the path can continue northeast or you can choose the first shortcut west toward the barbecue hut.
The path northeast leads on and then turns right onto a sand-based path to the water house of Lorscheid. From there, it goes over asphalt to the first orchard, which is located a little off to the left. Here, a board informs about the numerous different tree species planted here. The path continues to the next orchard with a bench. Here, we also receive all interesting information about the planted apple and nut varieties.
After a short further section, we reach a biotope with over 100 different plant species and various habitats for insects and small animals such as deadwood boxes, an insect hotel, and a living wall.
The path then leads back toward Meirather Kreuz, which we reach again after a total of 2.8 km.
From here, the path leads toward the barbecue hut. There is an ideal rest place with play possibilities for children. The path then continues through a small forest area back toward the local community. In the village area, we reach the intersection with the main street, where the local gastronomy is located. From here, the path leads to the children's playground with the newly built hiking hut for resting and relaxing.
Back to the starting point, the route goes below the village on a natural path, then through Mühlenweg and Waldstraße back to the parking lot.

Basically, entering the forest and walking on the hiking trails is at your own risk. Due to seasonal and weather conditions, increased surefootedness is required on some sections of the path. Therefore, wear clothing and hiking shoes with appropriate soles suitable for the season and weather.
