General information
Directions
The start is at the Tourist Information, Saarstraße 1, 54329 Konz. You cross the Saar and cycle straight ahead on the shoulder of the B 419 towards Wasserliesch. After 400 m, turn left. On the cycle path below the Granahöhe, follow the bike direction signs to the right towards Tawern. In Tawern, follow the signs for the Mannebach cycle path.
In Tawern, a detour to the Roman temple site on the Metzenberg is worth it! The climb is worth the effort! The site is freely accessible and can be visited at any time! Afterwards, enjoy the ride along the idyllic Mannebach valley!
In Mannebach, turn left onto L 135 towards Saarburg. About 1 km behind Mannebach, a climb begins that is 700 m long with slopes between 3 and 5%. After a flat section of 1 km, a descent begins towards Saarburg that is 3 km long with a gradient between 1 and 6%. Before the Tourist Information, turn left towards Mettlach. Saarburg, with its waterfall, castle complex, and historic old town, is worth a visit at any time of year. Experience Saarburg's very special flair during a city tour through the narrow lanes of the old town. Through the tunnel and then over the Saar bridge, you reach the cycle path towards Mettlach. After passing the village of Serrig and the barrage, the cycle path leads onto the shoulder of the B 51. Passing Saarhölzbach, you reach Mettlach.
In Mettlach, you will find the ceramics museum Keravision "The house of Villeroy & Boch," which tells the development and history of fine porcelain. Those who love shopping will find the outlet stores in Mettlach just right!
The treetop path Orscholz, with a total length of 1250 m and a height ranging from 3 to 23 meters, winds through beeches, oaks, and Douglas firs towards the Saarschleife. The highlight is the 42 m high observation point with a unique view over the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park and the Saarschleife valley!
You cycle over the Saar bridge and turn left into Oktavienstraße. There you follow the signs for the Merzig-Saarbrücken cycle path. Behind Mettlach, 3 km of the route is only paved, not asphalted. At the barrage, the cycle path begins around the famous Saarschleife. In Dreisbach, turn right and follow the signs to Cloef. Here begins a climb of 2.7 km length with about 8%. Before the exit of Nohn, another climb of 500 m with 4-7%.
Then follows a descent of 600 m with a 4-7% gradient. Then again a climb of 500 m with slopes between 2-4% and 500 m with 7-10%. The climbs lead onto the ridges of the Saargau. In Orscholz, turn right into Moselstraße and cycle to Cloef, the viewpoint high above the Saar valley with a magnificent view of the Saarschleife. Back in town, cycle towards Nennig. Behind Orscholz begins a descent of 1.8 km with a gradient between 3-5%. This is followed by a climb of 800 m with slopes between 2-4%. About 3 km behind Orscholz, you leave the federal road and turn right to Perl-Keßlingen. You cycle on a downhill section of 800 m to Keßlingen, with a gradient of 3-5%. Through the village, continue to Faha on a downhill section of 1.5 km with a gradient between 1-2%.
In Faha, turn right into Weitener Straße and then take the last street turning left, Rothburg. Here you cycle down from the heights of the Saargau on a downhill section of 3.5 km with a gradient between 2 and 5% into the Leuk valley. The nature reserve "Kollesleuker Schweiz" is characterized by bizarre rock formations. In Kollesleuken, cycle through the village and turn right after the bridge to Trassem. From Kollesleuken to Trassem, you cycle on a slightly hilly route. From Trassem, the route leads on the shoulder of the B 407 to Saarburg.
Along the left Saar bank, cycle via Biebelhausen to Kanzem. At the Saar bend, take the bridge and cycle along the Saar canal via Hamm back to the starting point in Konz.
