The circular hike on Zeltinger Berg, which is just under 7 kilometers long, is open to hikers year-round. Among the sights are the Erdener and Lösnicher chapels.
The loop trail begins at starting point A near the B269 and initially follows the federal highway south before turning toward Zeltingen-Rachtig. The trail continues northward through the Zeltinger Berg vineyard, winding over gentle ridges and vineyard paths. Passing waypoints J and E, you’ll reach the Kapellenweg near Lösnich—a quiet trail offering beautiful views of the Moselle slopes. The route continues through Erden (waypoints G, H, I), past steep Riesling terraces that epitomize the Moselle landscape. A highlight of the tour is the lookout point at the parking lot of the Hochmosel Bridge: From here, you’ll enjoy an impressive panorama of the Moselle Valley, the striking bridge structure, and the surrounding vineyards—a must-photograph spot! The trail continues to the picturesque Chapel D and back through wooded slopes to the starting point. Character: A varied loop hike through vineyards, forests, and Moselle villages—ideal for wine lovers and nature enthusiasts.
General information
Directions
With a view of the Bartholomäushütte, turn right across the meadow onto a small path that leads you to the upper vineyard trail along the edge of the valley. Continue hiking above the vineyards of Zeltingen-Rachtig. Along the way, you’ll pass the Plantert Cross with a telescope, the “Drei Tannen,” and the “Deutschherrenstamm” Scout hut, among other landmarks. Here, you’ll hike down the switchbacks, continuing between vineyards and meadows, and then cross a bridge on the access road to the Hochmosel crossing (new B50). Before that, you can take a short detour to the left to the Erdener Forest Chapel. The chapel is beautifully decorated with frescoes and offers lovely places to rest. After crossing the bridge, walk to a bench, then turn left and head down toward a small stream. The trail continues past orchards, vineyards, and meadows to the Lösnich Chapel. From here, you’ll head uphill. After climbing a few meters, a small trail branches off to the right from the forest path. Follow this trail across a small stream. Shortly afterward, you’ll return to the forest path and continue up to the Zeltinger Berg, then back across meadows and fields to the starting point of the hike.
Safety Guidelines
Wide paths on asphalt and gravel. It never hurts to wear good shoes.
Equipment
Hiking or trekking shoes, snacks for the hike (there are various options in Zeltingen-Rachtig).
Tip
There are many lovely picnic spots along the way—the most beautiful rest area is definitely at the Hochmosel Bridge.
Getting there
Coming from the B53, drive into the town of Zeltingen-Rachtig and follow the signs to the cabin.
