Short but demanding e-bike route with wide views over the Saargau and a delicious ice cream from the Saargauhof.
The route starts in Saarburg and leads past the Waldfrieden campsite up to the heights of the Saargau. In the Hosteberg holiday village, you reach the highest point of the route - the Hosteturm. Here you are rewarded with a wide view over the agriculturally shaped Saargau. The route then leads downhill to the Saarburg district of Kahren. In the self-service farm shop of the Hirt family, you can enjoy delicious ice cream made in-house. You can try about 12 ice cream varieties here (opening hours: www.saargauhof.de). After the refreshment, pass the Altfuchshof with its own cheese dairy. The path then leads downhill towards Trassem to the Fischerhütte. Along the way, you also pass part of the forest adventure trail. Here the beekeepers' association operates a teaching apiary with spaces for bee colonies and a wild bee hotel. During the breeding season (March-July), you can even view the inside of a living bee colony. The bike route leads through the Leukbachtal back to Saarburg.
General information
Directions
The route starts in Saarburg at the car park opposite the entrance to the REWE market and leads via Graf-Siegfried-Straße to the Waldfrieden campsite. Behind the campsite, you cross the L132 and turn left into the forest. The path climbs about 3 km uphill through the shady forest above Saarburg to the heights of the Saargau.
Across open fields and meadows, you reach the Hosteberg holiday village. Here you turn into Geheimrat-Brügman-Straße and arrive at the Hosteturm. The tower is freely accessible and visible from the entire Saargau. At 435 meters above sea level, it marks the highest point between Obermosel and Saar and on this route. You are rewarded with a panoramic view over the agriculturally shaped Saargau as far as Luxembourg and France. The route then leads down via Birkenweg, Enzianweg, and Fasanenweg to the Saarburg district of Kahren. Via Bergstraße and Saargaustraße, you reach your next destination – the Saargauhof. In the self-service farm shop of the Hirt family, you can enjoy delicious ice cream made in-house. Around 12 ice cream varieties can be sampled here (opening hours at www.saargauhof.de).
After the refreshment, you pass the Altfuchshof with its own cheese dairy. The path leads downhill past meadows and fields into the Trassemer Forest up to the barbecue hut. There, keep right and cycle over part of the forest adventure trail to the Fischerhütte in Trassem. Along the forest adventure trail, the beekeepers' association operates a teaching apiary with spaces for bee colonies and a wild bee hotel. During the breeding season (March to July), it is even possible to view the inside of a living bee colony in a display hive.
From the fishing pond, cycle via Kehrbachstraße, Saarburger Straße, and Kirchstraße to the Perdenbach district. At the end of Kirchstraße, turn right into Brückenstraße and after about 100 m immediately left into Mühlenstraße. Now continue straight on a field path past the Leukbachtal campsite back to the starting point in Saarburg.
